All things counter, original, spare, strange;
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?)
With swift, slow; sweet, sour; adazzle, dim...
-Gerard Manley Hopkins

Celebrate the “fickle and freckled”—the radiant imperfections that make us human—in this immersive, reflective poetry and therapeutic arts workshop. Immersing ourselves in the vivid poetry of Dorianne Laux, we’ll explore creative expression and the mottled beauty in ourselves and the world around us.

Participants will engage in creative reading and discussion, followed by a hands-on art project inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese tradition of repairing broken objects with gold to honour imperfection and resilience. Each participant will receive a printed copy of the poem by post, which they will tear up and decoratively reassemble. No prior experience in literature or art is required.
