Dr. Julie Sutherland
Hello! I am Julie Sutherland, the face and spirit behind this business. My PhD is in English Studies and Modern European Languages—a degree I pursued out of a deep passion for literature and language that has never left me. I have a second passion, which is community wellness, and over the decades I have honed my professional skills to promote mental and physical health among diverse communities.
Art & Humanity Literary Services and Consulting allows me to draw on my dedication to the twin pillars of art and wellness to offer my clients the opportunity to make a difference in their own lives and those they reach through their writing. Together with my clients, we are changing the world word by word!
- As a Literary Consultant, I have 24 years of experience offering established and emerging writers advice and support throughout the writing and publishing process. My international client base includes writers from diverse industries: academia; government; arts and entertainment; diplomatic services; transnational corporations; and international humanitarian aid, community development, and other not-for-profits.
- As a Literary Workshop Facilitator, I have the privilege of sharing my deep interest in the arts’ capacity to effect change in the human spirit, shift personal and public attitudes, and improve individual and community health. I am an award-winning lecturer with a long history of leading sessions on fiction, drama, poetry and film in educational and non-educational settings in Canada, the US, the UK, and online.
- My experience in Curriculum Design spans borders, subjects, ages, and objectives. In addition to formal independent and collaborative curriculum development for in-class and online courses and programs at post-secondary institutions, I have designed, co-designed, produced, and implemented all-ages online and in-person workshops, summer schools, webcasts, podcasts, and YouTube and Vimeo channels in the arts, humanities, health humanities, and anti-racism.
